Performing
Identity
Performing Identity examines the rituals through which people construct, negotiate, and inhabit their public selves. Moving between intimate interiors and urban landscapes, the photographs trace moments of preparation, presentation, and adaptation. Blending portraiture, fashion, and documentary photography, the series positions architecture and domestic space as active participants in the image. Homes, transit systems, sidewalks, storefronts, and institutional interiors become stages where the boundaries between private ritual and public visibility begin to dissolve.
Rather than presenting identity as a completed state, Performing Identity lingers in moments of transition. The photographs ask how we compose ourselves for the world, what remains hidden beneath those performances, and how our environments shape the ways we choose to be seen.
