Artist Statement

Breathing is an act we take granted and often times forget to do, I feel like it's my responsibility as a poet, writer and photographer to encapsulate the raw, real and truth in everything I create. Whether if that is a reflection of myself or an observation of my immediate environment, we as a people grow together through this duality of yin and yang. Constantly coexisting in spaces, Black, Indigenous, People of Color sharing these spaces on a daily basis facing the same if not, similar struggles, or similar triumphs as we move through this world to fulfill ourselves. My work encapsulates that. Speaking truth to a people, my people, myself. Allowing vulnerability to thrive and educate, allowing grief to fill the space and process the feeling of it, allowing love to overload and explode. That is my work, that is why I write poetry.

Shoutout to my idols, James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, Amiri Baraka, Saul Williams, The Watts Prophets.
